Joëlle is a South African audiovisual artist and designer living and working in London, UK.
Over the past 13 years she has worked in a range of creative fields, from web design to motion, interactive and product design. She feels happiest solving problems and creating elegant and usable experiences while exploring and understanding how humans interact with technology.
In July 2016 Joëlle joined Eedi, a learning platform whose mission is to create happier, more fulfilled children through the democratisation of education. Here she works as a visual and interaction designer, designing interfaces and prototyping interactions for digital products.
Joëlle’s audiovisual work is focused on exploring the connection between sound and form. Her approach is highly experimental, producing an output that is often unexpected and unknown at the start. Using frequencies and minimal structures she embraces the imperfections that emerge from her process as she tries to capture the emotions that she feels in the moment.
These works range from music videos and digital artworks to generative realtime live visuals and performance, and are constructed of computer generated images driven by audio, resulting in images and forms that are largely sculpted by sound.
Joëlle has participated in OFFFest Barcelona at the closing party in a collaboration with Joshua Davis, MIRA Festival (BCN) alongside Andy Stott, Taktung Festival (CH) alongside Killawatt and Field Maneuvers Festival (UK). Other works include visuals for Killawatt’s Boiler Room debut, a video for Killawatt’s “Pressgang” on Osiris Records, an AV show with Ancestral Voices and live visuals for drum and bass duo Counterstrike.
